Bexley Wing at St James’s Hospital in Leeds is opening its doors to the public on Saturday 12th October to showcase the work that goes on within cancer services in Leeds.
The event aims to highlight the amazing work of the teams involved in providing support, care and treatment to patients following a cancer diagnosis. Treatments and technologies have advanced significantly over recent years leading to more patients being cured or surviving longer following their diagnosis. Alongside this, services have been developed to help patients to manage the symptoms of their cancer or treatment and to provide better support and information to both patients and families.
A team of specialist staff will be available during the day to illustrate the work that goes on in the cancer centre and to discuss the wide range of career opportunities that are available within cancer services including roles in administration, nursing, radiotherapy, research, clinical science, and support teams.
Visitors will have the opportunity to go behind the scenes in Radiotherapy and to visit our Chemotherapy unit in addition to trying out their hand at some nursing procedures on the centre’s training equipment.
Tours of our departments will be running throughout the day. Tours will start at 11am, 12pm, 1pm and 2pm and are to be booked at the welcome desk upon arrival. Please note that the Radiotherapy department will be open from 11am – 1pm only. To book onto a tour for the Radiotherapy department specifically call 0113 2068940.
