The new website (www.togtherforshortlives.org.uk) went live today and is there to help, support and inform parents, professionals and anyone interested in children’s palliative care issues.
Children’s palliative care professionals can access a hub of information, resources, good practice guidance and a range of innovative tools, including an international forum for professionals in children’s palliative care to share best practice.
The site features a dedicated family section to help with the journey from diagnosis to end of life and into bereavement. It signposts parents to information and resources every step of the way.
Families can search for support in their area, either by clicking on a map or by entering their postcode, and can sign up to receive the family-focused newsletter, join a parent group or become a friend.
Another feature is the Butterfly Tribute Fund, an interactive page that bereaved family members and friends can set up in memory of a loved one. The bespoke online donation page encourages people to leave comments, making it an interactive location for people affected by life-threatening or life-limiting conditions.
A dedicated members’ area also provides new functionality for Together for Short Lives members.
Myra Johnson, communications director from Together for Short Lives, said: “Finding accurate and accessible information about children’s palliative care can be hard for families and professionals working in the field. It is still a relatively new specialty and it’s hard to know where to go for help and information.
“Many parents of children with life-threatening or life-limiting conditions tell us that they really struggle to find the information and support they need; and this is especially tough for parents whose child has just been diagnosed. We hope that our new website will provide all families with a ‘one stop shop’ for the information they need.”
ehospice is also featured on the new website as one of the very first news stories to appear.
