New database on healthcare resources in Europe

Categories: Research.

The database, HlthRes-DB, contains nearly 200 indicators on human and technical resources for health. The data were collected jointly by the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and WHO/Europe.

For each country, HlthRes-DB includes data on:

  • the number of health personnel (such as physicians, nurses, midwives, dentists, pharmacists and health care assistants)
  • the number of hospitals, hospital beds and beds for long-term care (by ownership of facility – public, non-profit-making private and for-profit private
  • the availability of medical equipment such as MRI units, mammographs, radiation therapy equipment and lithotriptors.

WHO/Europe has also updated a number of its other databases, which hold data on a selection of core health and mortality statistics, covering basic demographics, health status, health determinants and risk factors and health-care resources.
