LILONGWE, Malawi – Vice President Dr. Jane Ansah has called for stronger national support for palliative healthcare following the official launch of the 2026 Ndimoyo Palliative Care Trust Fundraising Golf Tournament, an initiative aimed at raising K80 million to improve care for patients living with chronic and life-limiting illnesses.

Speaking during the launch at Lilongwe Golf Club, Dr. Ansah emphasized the importance of collective action in ensuring that vulnerable Malawians have access to quality palliative care, describing it as an essential pillar of a compassionate and inclusive healthcare system. She urged government institutions, the private sector, development partners and individuals to support initiatives that provide dignity, comfort and specialized treatment to patients facing serious health conditions.

The launch signals the start of a nationwide fundraising campaign that seeks to mobilize resources for the Ndimoyo Palliative Care Trust, with proceeds from the annual golf tournament earmarked for the purchase of essential medicines, medical equipment and other critical supplies needed to strengthen palliative care services across the country.

Organizers say the campaign is designed to help bridge funding gaps that continue to affect the delivery of specialized healthcare for patients requiring long-term pain management, symptom control and holistic support. Beyond medical treatment, palliative care also provides emotional, psychological and social support to patients and their families, improving quality of life throughout the course of serious illness.

The Trust has become an important partner in complementing government efforts to expand access to specialized healthcare services, particularly for people living with cancer, advanced chronic diseases and other life-limiting conditions. By investing in medicines, equipment and trained healthcare personnel, the organization aims to ensure that more Malawians receive compassionate, patient-centered care regardless of their circumstances.

The fundraising initiative also underscores the growing importance of public-private partnerships in strengthening Malawi’s healthcare system. Organizers believe sustained collaboration between government, businesses, civil society and philanthropic organizations will be critical to improving healthcare financing and expanding access to essential services for vulnerable communities.

The official launch attracted several prominent golfers, corporate leaders and distinguished guests, reflecting broad support for the Trust’s humanitarian mission. Their participation highlighted a shared commitment to mobilizing resources for healthcare initiatives that directly improve the lives of patients and their families.

As preparations begin for the 2026 fundraising golf tournament, the Ndimoyo Palliative Care Trust is optimistic that the campaign will achieve its K80 million target and generate the resources needed to expand access to quality palliative care. Success, organizers say, will not only strengthen healthcare delivery but also bring hope, dignity and comfort to thousands of Malawians navigating some of life’s most difficult health challenges.
