The African Palliative Care Association (APCA) celebrates its 20th anniversary!!!!!
The theme “20 years of Comprehensive Palliative and Chronic Care for sustainable development in Africa”. This is an inviting topic, as this milestone recognizes the crucial role of good physical and mental health for humanity. Most importantly, the commemorative activities are open to several countries and will include virtual and physical events, which will provide opportunities for all of us, culminating in the 8th triennial APCA African International Palliative Care Conference, scheduled to take place in Gaborone, Botswana, in September 2025. This will allow the majority of members to participate, all with the aim of further raising awareness and advocating for adequate levels of access to palliative care for all those in need in Africa and for national health care systems to integrate this at all levels of care.
Another crucial and commendable point is the creation of a regional palliative care fund to boost the development of palliative care in African countries. The most important aspect of this milestone is that it recognizes the crucial role of good physical and mental health for humanity in achieving the SDGs, and a reiteration of palliative care as an essential component of comprehensive health care throughout the lifespan. ” (WHA67.19)
