On Friday 4 March, Dr Stephen Connor, Executive Director, and Mr Jose de la Cruz, International Programmes and Fundraising Manager, of WHPCA met with Mr Fekadu Beyene, Minister Counsellor I – Diaspora Affairs, of the Ethiopian embassy in London.
During the meeting WHPCA shared with the embassy their plan to support palliative care services in partnership with local organisations and the Ministry of Health in Ethiopia.
Mr Beyene was very appreciative of WHPCA’s inclusive approach in addressing Ethiopia’s palliative care need.
He pledged to support the work by linking the organisation with diaspora groups and with UK-based companies and organisations working in Ethiopia.
The role of Ethiopians living in the UK in training and fundraising was also discussed as some of the practical ways of supporting palliative care in Ethiopia.
Mr de la Cruz, said: “We are grateful for the pledge of support from the Ethiopian embassy, which will help improve the health outcomes for those with life limiting illnesses and in need of palliative care.”
