The African Palliative Care Research Network and partners are delighted to invite you to take part in two exciting research-focused events happening alongside the 8th International African Palliative Care and Allied Services Conference happening in Gaborone, Botswana this September conference. These sessions present unique opportunities to share knowledge, shape research agendas, and build collaborations in palliative and supportive care across Africa.

1. Africa Bereavement Evidence Workshop

Date: 23rd September 2025

Join us as we map existing evidence on bereavement in Africa and co-create a future research agenda. This workshop—led by experts from APCA, Makerere University, and Cambridge University—will present findings from a continent-wide review of bereavement research and invite participants to contribute ideas and perspectives for shaping future work in this field.

This is a must-attend session for anyone with professional or lived experience of grief, bereavement, or an interest in developing supportive services.

2. Bright Ideas: Emerging Research in Palliative and Supportive Care in Africa

Date: 24th September 2025              Time: 4:10 PM Venue: Okavango Suite

Building on the February 2025 virtual symposium on psychosocial, palliative, and end-of-life care, this working session will showcase emerging research priorities and proposals in Africa.

We invite you to submit an abstract on an emerging research idea or priority in palliative and supportive care. Selected applicants will present during the session, receive feedback, and have the opportunity to apply for Princess Margaret Global Cancer Program Seed Grant Funding in partnership with GIPPEC and APCA.

• Advance Care Planning
• Grief and Bereavement
• Health System Planning
