The Tanzanian Palliative Care Association (TPCA) has written to all the stakeholders involved in palliative care policy development to congratulate and thank them for helping to make “the palliative care dream come true.”
In a letter to all its partners Dr Elias J Muganyizi, the Executive Director of TPCA, went on to say that the policy would not have been possible if it had not been for the united effort of all stakeholders. The letter made particular mention of the support that the African Palliative Care Association (APCA) through funding from USAID-Tanzania and USAID’s Regional HIV/AIDS Program in South Africa provided. The process was also supported by the Ocean Road Cancer Institute and ICAP .
TPCA is currently working hard to print and disseminate the new document to all relevant actors to ensure that the policy is implemented on the ground.
Commenting on the new policy, Dr Elias J Muganyizi thanked everyone who contributed saying, “Your insight and passion for improving for improving the quality of lives in this nation is both important and valuable for the wellbeing of our people.”
Marleen Masclee, the Programmes Manager at the APCA commented, “I would like to send my sincere and heartfelt congratulations to everyone at TPCA who have worked so hard to make this policy a reality. Thousands of people across Tanzania will no longer have to live in unnecessary pain and this is a tribute to everyone involved.”
She continued, “I am also delighted that APCA has been able to contribute to the development of this policy.”
