The Botswana Hospice Palliative Care Association has been launched with support from the African Palliative Care Association and Twinning Center.

The launch of the Botswana Hospice Palliative Care association in Botswana marks a great opportunity for the country and more especially the patients and families with incurable illnesses. The launch took place at Gaborone Sun Hotel in Gaborone Botswana on 9th July 2014. The launched association was registered in January 2013 as a non-profit organisation by a committed team of volunteers for the interim committee. This was an important milestone on the long road to creating effective and accessible palliative care services in Botswana accessible to all wherever they live.

The association, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, will work systematically to comfort those in need of compassionate care.

During the launch, the ministry of health representative Dr El Halabi Deputy Permanent Secretary commended the commitment of the executive committee spearheading the national association because she said that palliative care is the most neglected component in health care yet very important. She promised that the Ministry of Health is committed to support palliative care activities in Botswana in close collaboration with the national association.
