A Banner Year for the Red Deer Hospice Society’s 6th Annual Hike for Hospice

Categories: Community Engagement.

Two hundred hikers enjoyed a beautiful spring day at our scenic new hike location,  Kerry Wood Nature Centre.  Our choice of Kerry Wood Nature Centre was a natural tie in with Hospice being a sanctuary for end of life care.  After a warm up session led by a fitness instructor from Collicut Centre, hiker’s headed out on either  a 1 km paved wheel chair accessible path and a more challenging 4 km hiking trail through the woods.

Upon their return they were treated to massages courtesy of the Alberta Institute of Massage and a bbq hosted by sponsors:   Big Bend Market, Nossack’s Fine Meats, Save-on-Foods, GPW  Pure Water, Tasty Bakery, Costco and Harley Davidson.  The support of these sponsors and those who donated to our hiker raffle as well as the dozens of volunteers who helped pull it all together are invaluable in making the event a success not only financially but by enhancing the experience for our hikers.

Of special note is our 2013 Hike Family Captain, 6 year old Carson McRobbie, who lead all hikers by raising over $4,000 in pledges!
