Grief is different for everyone

As I stood in the doorway, all those feelings came rushing back into my mind and it hit me that I may not be coping with this as well as I try to let on. The empty chair at the head of the kitchen table brings me to close my eyes and there he is, like he was every time before, greeting me with a smile as he sipped his cup of coffee. But the darkness cannot hide the truth this morning. These are the challenges many who have experienced loss feel and it’s OK to feel this way.

Being here now is extremely difficult; the emotional scab that covered the wound these past months has been picked off and it’s all raw again. Grief works on its own timeline and is different for everyone; for me, sitting in the living room brought back all the memories of those nights that Dad and I shared in this very room.
