The Palliative Institute was launched in October 2012, envisioning a future where every Albertan can make informed choices about their palliative and end-of-life care and where caregivers have the knowledge, expertise and resources to support them. It is the Institute’s role to serve as a knowledge broker and problem solver for patients and families, clinicians, policymakers, caregivers and researchers; and to lead informed public conversation about palliative and end-of-life issues. The Palliative Institute is in search of a Director who is motivated, innovative, and brings leading-edge expertise, who is committed to advancing Palliative/End of Life Care within Covenant Health and at a provincial and national level.

Description:

Reporting to the Senior Operating Officer and Covenant Health Executive Lead, Palliative/End of Life Care (PEOLC), the Palliative Institute Director is responsible for the strategic and operational management of the Palliative Institute (PI) and for strategic management of PEOLC throughout Covenant Health. The Director will set clinical and quality direction for palliative care across Covenant Health in collaboration with the Scientific

Director, PI and the Physician lead for PEOLC. In collaboration with the Scientific Director, the Director sets and oversees key performance indicators and strategic planning for end of life care in Covenant Health and oversees managing resources for the PI. The position leads innovative, leading edge program planning, monitors program performance and creates a culture that encourages innovation, supports change and drives for continuous improvement. The Director will work collaboratively with Covenant Health Senior Operating Officers to ensure high quality end of life care. The Director will promote strategy, development, integration and coordination of quality research, education, public outreach, administrative and clinical support for PEOLC across Covenant Health sites and within Alberta.

equired Qualifications:

Post-graduate education in a healthcare or related field required. Minimum five (5) years in leadership/management capacity required. Membership in an appropriate professional organization to support professional development.

An equivalent combination of education and related experience will be considered.
