Kelowna’s Need for a Respite/Hospice House for Children

Categories: Care.

This distance places financial, physical and emotional strain on patients and loved ones as they are required to leave their homes, support systems and jobs. In the past, the Ugly Jacket Classic Golf Tournament has been held to help families fund the expenses of travelling to Vancouver. Although two years ago, a scenario arose that shifted the focus of the fundraiser. As the money raised from that year’s tournament was given to nine-year-old Marcus Smythe and his family, it became increasingly clear that what Marcus wanted most was to be with his friends and his dog. Sadly, Marcus passed away less than two months later. Through this scenario, the Wish Come True Society recognized that building a respite/hospice house for children in Kelowna should emerge as a priority over sending families to Vancouver. On July 24th, 2013, the 8th Annual Ugly Jacket Classic Golf Tournament will take place to raise funds towards the goal of building a respite/hospice house for children.
