The Palliative/End of Life (EOL) Program, Alberta Health Services – Calgary Zone is currently seeking qualified Palliative Care Physicians.Alberta Health Services – Calgary Zone includes the City of Calgary as well as a large area of south-central Alberta extending from Banff National Park to areas to the south and east of Calgary.  Palliative care consultations are provided by inter-professional teams consisting of physicians, advanced practice nurses and other team members, and are delivered in a variety of service sites such as Acute Care, Homecare, Hospices, and an Intensive Palliative Care Unit (IPCU).  In addition, the physicians in the Service are encouraged to apply for academic appointment in the Division of Palliative Medicine, University of Calgary.  The Division is extensively involved in a program of Palliative Medicine education for medical students and residents, provides opportunities for teaching in other Faculties at the University of Calgary, and is actively developing opportunities for research in Palliative Medicine.  The Division also currently offers a Diploma program in Palliative Medicine that is accredited conjointly by Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, and the College of Family Physicians of Canada, and members of the physician group are extensively involved in supporting this program.

Physicians who participate in the consult service group receive payment through an alternative relationship plan that has been negotiated with Alberta Health and Wellness.

Qualified physicians will have completed a Diploma Program in Palliative Medicine or equivalent education, or will have acquired several years of experience as a palliative consultant.  An interest in research or education in Palliative Medicine would be an asset.

Interested physicians must be eligible for licensing in Alberta and hold current CMPA coverage.
