Spiritual Care Education for Front Line Workers
with Barb Fugelsang, Certified Spiritual Care Specialist
Wednesday, June 18th, 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm (EST)
Balmoral Street Centre, Lakehead University campus
Spiritual Care is a core element of palliative care (World Health Organization, 2002). While chaplains and spiritual care advisors have a particular role and expertise in this area, there is growing recognition that all staff and volunteers have the potential to provide basic spiritual care. Education offered in spiritual care can be affirming to Front Line Workers by putting a name to the important work that they do everyday – working with clients on their spiritual journey.
This presentation aims to provide Front Line Workers with an understanding of the importance of recognizing the spiritual needs of clients, especially at the end-of-life.
Learning Objectives:
- To provide the Front Line Worker with an understanding of spiritual care, and how spiritual care differs from religion.
- To provide the Front Line Worker with an understanding of how their role contributes to the spiritual well-being of their client.
- To help Front Line Workers develop a comfort level dealing with the spiritual needs of their client and provide them with tools that can be implemented at the bedside to enhance the lives of their client.
