WHO’s Executive Board adopts a resolution on palliative care

The initiatives include better access for patients to relevant medicines and technical assistance to member countries. Dr. Emmanual Luyirika, who sits as the Trustee of the Worldwide Palliative Care Alliance and Chief Executive Officer of the African Palliative Care Association stated that for the first time in history, WHO’s Executive Board has included palliative care as a stand-alone item on their agenda. A report released by WHO shows that that a minimum of 40-million people worldwide require palliative care annually, and that number is expected to grow in the coming years.
