The Third Czech Children´s Palliative Care Conference was held on November 30 and December 1, 2017 in Olomouc on the premises of the Military Hospital. The conference was endorsed by the Czech Ministry of Health and by the local government. It was aimed at professionals in Children´s Palliative Care and was attended by more than 200 physicians, nurses, social workers, psychologists and others involved in this field.
The speakers’ contributions were focused on medical issues as well as on psychosocial, spiritual, ethical and legal aspects of care. The programme contained over 30 lectures and many well attended interactive workshops. Contributing were leading experts from the Czech Republic, including Dr. Mahulena Mojžíšová and Dr. Irena Závadová, and a very welcome experience from abroad was shared by Dr. Jennifer Hwang, Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania´s Perelman School of Medicine.
The Czech edition of “A Really Practical Handbook of Children’s Palliative Care” by Justin Amery was launched on the first day of the conference with the participation of the main translator, Dr. Lucie Hrdličková.
The conference culminated in a panel discussion on the current situation in children´s palliative care and the possibilities of its development.
The Fourth CCPC Conference will be held in 2019.
