Free 3 day course for nurses in North Central and East London

Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital (GOSH) are pleased to offer a 3-day programme in Paediatric Palliative Care Foundation from 21 – 23 May 2014 for any qualified nurse, in all settings who have contact with babies, children and young people with life threatening and life limiting conditions or their family would benefit from this programme. 

The course, which normally costs £300, is being kindly sponsored by the Health Education North Central and East London (HE NCEL).

Course details and objectives:

  • To understand the definition of children’s palliative care. 
  • To develop an awareness of policy and care pathways. 
  • To help recognise a child or young person’s palliative care needs.
  • To explore the concept of symptom management. 
  • To identify the tools that can be used in your own clinical setting. 
  • To explore partnership working with hospices and community partners. 
  • To identify and sign post to other palliative care and bereavement services.

The programme
The programme will enable teams and individual to reinforce their skills and confidence in providing an excellent and consistent palliative care service to the child or young person with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions and families and colleagues.  

The programme is a mixture of lectures, small group work, discussions and interactive panels, delivered by experts and experienced staff who work children  with palliative care needs.

Understanding Children’s Palliative Care

Day 2: Thursday, 22 May 2014
Exploring Symptom Management & Use of Tools
Venue: Anglo Educational Services, 45 Russell Square, London WC1B 4JP 

Day 3: Friday, 23 May 2014 Communicating with partners
Venue: St Joseph’s Hospice, Mare Street Hackney, E8 4SA In partnership with Children’s Hospices across London (CHaL).
