Informative webinar on the management of refractory pain

The American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology (ASPHO) which is the only professional organisation dedicated exclusively to the professional development and interest of subspecialist in paediatric hematology and oncology, recently hosted an informative webinar with Dr Stefan Friedrichsdorf on ‘The Management of Refractory Pain’.

Dr Stefan Friedrichsdorf is medical director of the Department of Pain Medicine, Palliative Care and Integrative Medicine at Children’s Hospitals and Clinics in Minnesota. He is Principal Investigator of a National Institutes of Health (NIH)/ National Cancer Institute (NCI) five year multisite study on the creation, implementation and evaluation of Pediatric Palliative Care Curriculum (EPEC – Pediatrics). Dr Friedrichsdorf lectures nationally and internationally about paediatric pain medicine, palliative care and integrative medicine and has a track record of publications in the field, with contributions to more than 20 books on the subject. He is also course director of the annual week long Pediatric Pain Master Class.

Refractory Pain amongst children with blood disorders and cancer is challenging and often substandard. The hour long webinar uses practical cases and scenarios to address the complications that arise from care of children with unbearable pain which leads to complications in cancer diagnoses. The webinar covers topics ranging from chronic sickle cell pain to the management of neuropathic pain.
