“Our dearest darling, Kate” is the tittle of a beautifully intimate letter from a mother to her daughter after a long struggle with leukaemia.
“About an hour after my daughter passed away I came into her room and crawled into her bed to write this letter to her” says Lindsay, mother of Kate Rhoades, as she recalls the deeply intimate moment after her daughter passed away.
The sickness and loss of a child, especially at the vibrant age of 4 is an unthinkable experience which soon became a reality for Lindsay and her husband Mike when their daughter, Kate Rhoades, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia(ALL) in 2013. The National Cancer Institute defines ALL as a cancer where the bone marrow makes ‘too many immature lymphocytes’, which are a type of white blood cells. Fever and bruising are common signs of ALL.
As the new year began, tests results showed that the cancer which was previously in remission was back and Kate’s life was tragically cute short. Kate passed away on January 12, 2016.
“Life after Kate’s death is filled with so many questions,” says teary mother Lindsay. In an effort to honour Kate’s legacy and to spread the word about ALL, Lindsay read the beautiful letter at Kate’s memorial service. Kate’s letter is part of The Truth 365 campaign which aims to give a voice to all children fighting cancer. To watch “our dearest darling, Kate”, please click here.
