“The Melbourne statement on Young Children born into HIV-affected Families” was published during the International AIDS Conference 2014 in Melbourne Australia, by the Coalition for Children Affected by AIDS in an effort to address certain issues concerning children and their families who are HIV-affected.
In the article, emphasis is placed on the importance of early detection and treatment. The potential benefits that the child and family could experience as a result of early detection are also discussed.
HIV affected children and families have an array of different needs that need to be met. The statement addresses the idea of providing children with a vital package of services that will meet the child’s diverse needs.
Lastly the statement tackles the importance of early intervention, more especially amongst the marginalized children of the community.
