The Coventry Telegraph reports that Dr Angela Thompson, a complex and palliative care lead paediatrician who has made huge contributions to the development of palliative care services in Coventry, Warwickshire and West Midlands and has also been the chair of the West Midlands Palliative Care Network for many years, was honoured and named “Best Doctor” in the 2014 WellChild Awards.

The WellChild awards celebrate the courage and strength of children with serious illnesses or complex conditions and the dedication of multidisciplinary teams who go above and beyond the call of duty to help the sick children and their families.

The WellChild awards were a star studded event, with Prince Harry presenting Dr Thompson her award.

Liz Herd, Dr Thompson’s nominator said “I have been nursing for 40 years and feel Angela is quite unique in her ability to advocate for and communicate with children and families. She makes every child and family she cares for feel valued and empowered in decision making at every stage of their journey. Angela gives 110% to not only the children and young people she cares for but also in developing services for others.”
