Katherine Pettus, a leading drug policy scholar who represents the IAHPC at the International Drug Policy Consortium and the Vienna NGO Coalition, has written a blog for the EAPC calling for a critical look at the dominant UN discourse on the ‘global drug problem’.
Dr Pettus writes that this dominant conception has eclipsed the problem facing millions of terminally ill patients of little or no access to opioid medications.
She calls for palliative care advocates to help “reframe the world drug problem by engaging national and international policy makers in informed, sensitive and committed conversation.”
