In the last 10 days I have steadily made my way across Europe through France, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro, Albania, Greece, Turkey.
In Italy I got stopped by the Polizia, only to be asked if they could have their photograph taken with the bike! Croatia proved to be absolutely beautiful with immaculate tarmac roads. Montenegro/Albania had the worst pot holed roads to ride on i.e. it took 3 hours to ride 65 miles!
A typical day: dry until 11 am then thunderstorms and strong winds, combined with wet tarmac and crazy foreign driving rules and you get a real life gaming console!
Next I had to catch a ferry from Athens to Izmir, Turkey but needed to ride 900 miles in 2 days to catch it on time. I made it to the Greek border and I heard the ferry would not be sailing due to strong winds so Plan B: Ride straight across to the Turkish border instead, I booked a hotel ahead but when I got there I was told that they didn’t have my reservation… I was then upgraded to a 5 star hotel, very much welcomed after 11 hours and 450 miles!
I made it to Turkey only to be welcomed with a speeding fine within the first half hour of entering the country! Preparations for Africa began: the bike valeted, fluids checked, a mini service and a fresh new set of tyres.
Africa is on the horizon…
