Tracey Bleakley, who is currently chief executive of the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners, will be joining Hospice UK at the end of the year.
Bleakley has worked at executive level in the charitable and public sector since 2009 and in her new role will lead the national charity in its work supporting and championing the work of more than 200 hospice care providers across the country.
Confirming the appointment, Chair of Hospice UK Lord Howard of Lympne said: “I am delighted that Tracey will be joining Hospice UK as our new chief executive.
“Hospice UK has big ambitions for hospices to play a more prominent role in sharing their expertise more widely to transform end of life care across all settings, including a reinvigorated partnership with the NHS.
“Tracey has an excellent track record at board level and a wealth of experience in the public and charitable sector and the requisite skills and experience to deliver our vision.”
Commenting on her appointment, Bleakley said: “I am delighted to be taking on the leadership of Hospice UK at such an exciting time for the hospice care sector and at such a critical juncture for end of life care.
“There is a growing public awareness about the huge difference that high quality end of life care can make for dying and terminally ill people and their families. There is a critical need for more of this kind of care to support the UK’s increasing number of older people. I look forward to working with hospices to champion this cause and develop our service offer for the future.
“Having had family members experience such high quality care in my local hospice I am delighted to support organisations that provide such care.”
