Invitation to a palliative care dialogue with the WHO Director General Dr. Tedros

On Wednesday 28th April, you are invited to a Palliative Care dialogue with the World Health Organization (WHO) Director General Dr. Tedros and representatives of Civil Society Organizations. The round table meeting starts at 15:00-16:30 Central European Summer Time (UTC+02). Find the current time in your country

This roundtable is curated by International Association for Hospice and Palliative Carethe Worldwide Hospice and Palliative Care Alliance, and the International Federation on Ageing. This invitation is open to all members of civil society organizations (CSOs), so please share this invitation with your networks.

Palliative care providers and people with palliative care needs will address the following palliative care topics that relate to the WHO 13th General Program of Work and “Triple Billion Targets”

  • “One billion more people benefiting from Universal Health Coverage” – Palliative is an essential element of UHC and will be addressed by a recipient of palliative care. Two other speakers will address monitoring and evaluation frameworks, and supply chain strengthening for essential palliative care medicines.
  • “One billion more people protected from preventable suffering during emergencies.” A palliative care provider working with refugees will address efforts to integrate palliative care into emergency responses, including for COVID-19;
  • “One billion more people enjoying better health and wellbeing.” A representative of Compassionate Communities movement will address responses to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and the palliative care needs of older persons, including bereavement and complicated grief, and a nurse will discuss how palliative care nursing can support resilience of patients, families, communities, and providers.
