The theme of the seminar, which is being held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, from 16 to 17 October 2014, is ‘Palliative care research in Europe: How to move towards evidence-based medicine and evidence-based practice?’
The scientific programme includes topics such as:
- effectiveness of complex interventions in palliative care
- improving palliative care in nursing homes
- cancer cachexia – a uniform concept?
- standardised care pathways
- health registries in palliative care public health research.
The 3rd International Seminar saw the introduction of the GW Hanks lecture, in memory of Professor Geoffrey Hanks who died last year, and who has been described by colleagues as a ‘giant’ of palliative care research, teaching and clinical work.
This year’s GW Hanks lecture will be given by Prof. Per Sjøgren, Copenhagen University Hospital, Denmark, and is entitled ‘Indications for use of opioids in non-malignant pain – the Danish experience.’
Abstracts are invited for oral or poster presentations. The deadline for abstract submission is 1 September 2014 – further details are available on the seminar website.
There are also further details about the conference and how to register on the website. The deadline for early bird registration fee is 15 July 2014.
