Kenya Hospices and Palliative Care Association (KEHPCA) was announced as one of ten winners of the prestigious Red Ribbon Award in July this year, and received the award during this year’s World AIDS Day celebrations.
Kenyan Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka presented the award to Dr Zipporah Ali, Executive Director of KEHPCA and congratulated her on the achievement.
The Red Ribbon Award is the world’s leading award for innovative and outstanding community work in the response to the AIDS epidemic.
KEHPCA received the award for the organization’s work in care and support for those living with HIV and AIDS in Kenya.
In an article on the website of UNAIDS, the organization’s Executive Director, Michel Sidibé, is quoted as saying: “The winners of the Red Ribbon Award 2012 have accomplished so much with so little. They work at the grassroots level in very challenging situations to ensure that vulnerable groups and people living with HIV get the information, services and opportunities they need. Communities are where the response to AIDS started and it is their energy, innovation and leadership that have set us on the course to end of AIDS.”
