The Ministry of Health has committed itself to include palliative care in its budget to cushion palliative care providers who have entirely relied on charity to survive.
The announcement was made during a media breakfast as a build-up to commemorate this year’s World Cancer Day, which also highlighted the shortage of oncologists and high number of cancer cases in the country.
The country’s National Cancer Control Strategy provides a road map to promote cancer control management through a variety of interventions. It aims to advance cancer prevention and control through early detection, improved diagnosis and treatment including palliative care as well as promoting cancer surveillance, establishment of registries and research.
