The European Citizen Award was launched by the European Parliament in 2008 to recognise outstanding achievements by individuals and groups within Europe. The Maltese MEPs nominated Hospice Malta to reward their efforts in providing care to patients and their families on the island.
Hospice Chairperson Lora Cascun said: “Hospice Malta is honoured to have been nominated for this prestigious award by the Maltese MEPs.
“This year Hospice Malta is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Since 1989, we have helped more than 7500 patients and their families through their difficult experiences. This nomination gives all hospice staff and volunteers the impetus to continue delivering high quality services to patients and their families.”
As well as providing care and support, the hospice also runs the annual European Certificate in Essential Palliative Care course for doctors and nurses and a biennial national conference.
The award ceremony will be held in Malta on the 6 February 2015.
