According to reports published in The Moscow News and Russia Behind the Headlines, Moscow City Hall has offered a choice of eight plots of land as possible sites for the hospice building.

Two charities – Vera and Podari Zhizn Foundation – are at the forefront in the push to have a children’s hospice in the city.

The move comes a week after charity Podari Zhizn Foundation wrote an open letter to Moscow’s mayor calling for a children’s hospice. The letter, signed by more than 15,000 people pointed out that around 3,000 children require palliative care in Moscow and that more than 100 children die of incurable diseases in the city every year.

The eight sites offered by the city hall are located in the centre of Moscow and are said to currently house dilapidated buildings– the plot will be provided free of charge on a 49 year lease.

Representatives from the charities have been given some time to analyze the sites before making a decision as to which one suits best.

It is thought that the hospice will take abut two years to build, although no work will start until documentation has been finalized.

Once built the hospice will be able to treat up to 20 children at a time.
