The International Children’s Palliative Care Network (ICPCN) is thrilled to announce the appointment of talented actor Roberto Manrique as their new global ambassador.
The ICPCN, a worldwide network of individuals and agencies advocating for the rights of children and young people with any life-limiting or life-threatening condition to receive palliative care, provides an up-to-date information service, coordinates and shares research, assists in the development of children’s palliative care services and provides free and multilingual online learning about children’s palliative care.
About Roberto Manrique
Roberto, who was born and raised in Ecuador, found his passion for acting when he was working in Peru and has since become a sought after television and stage actor in Latin America and with the Hispanic audience in the US. He achieved his first international starring role in the television series Los Victorinos which lead to his first international award nomination when he was chosen by the public as one of the five ‘Favourite Soap Opera Protagonists’ at the TVyNovelas Awards in Colombia.
Since January 2010, Roberto has also combined his acting work with social responsibility by actively participating with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), working with communities of refugees such as Ecuadorians in the province of Sucumbíos, as well as developing dynamic games for children, body expression workshops for youths, and juggling, singing, and clown shows for children and adults, among other activities. More information on Roberto and the great work he does can be found on his website at http://roberto-manrique.com/
In taking up this appointment Roberto will help to raise awareness of the rights of the 21 million children globally whose lives will be shortened as a result of incurable illnesses or genetic conditions, to receive palliative care.
Roberto has this to say about his new role:
“It’s a privilege and an honour to serve a cause that is an integral part of life. I am forever grateful to ICPCN for allowing me the opportunity to be a voice for this cause and for allowing me to take part in the ground-breaking work they do.
ICPCN’s message needs to be spread to communities around the world: ALL children and their families deserve access to quality paediatric palliative care should they need it, regardless of where they live or their socio-economic background.
Children’s palliative care not only improves the quality of life for the patient but creates a safe-space for families to be well cared for throughout the healthcare journey, regardless of the medical outcome of their beloved child.”
Commenting on Roberto’s appointment as an ICPCN global ambassador the network’s Chief Executive, Joan Marston, said, “We are thrilled and honoured to appoint such a compassionate and credible global ambassador who will help raise awareness of the importance of palliative care provision for children, particularly within the Latin American communities. There is an enormous need and shortage of services in this region of the world.”
“ICPCN would also like to acknowledge with gratitude the contribution of Dianne Gray, CEO of Hospice & Healthcare Communications and ICPCN Global Advocate for approaching Roberto to become our Global Ambassador,” she said.
Roberto joins the ICPCN as they prepare for the 2nd ICPCN Conference, Children’s Palliative Care – NOW! to take place in Buenos Aires, Argentina in May 2016. The conference will be the culmination of the organisation’s 10 year anniversary campaign, known as the NOW campaign.
