World Hospice and Palliative Care Day 2024 is scheduled for October 12th. This annual event aims to raise awareness about the importance of hospice and palliative care, which focus on improving the quality of life for individuals with serious, life-limiting illnesses. Each year, the day highlights different aspects of care and seeks to engage communities and policymakers to support and expand access to these vital services.
The year 2024 marks 10 years since the World Health Assembly (WHO’s Governing Body) passed the only stand-alone resolution on palliative care, calling for all countries to “strengthen palliative care as a component of comprehensive care throughout the life course.” This is what inspired the theme for 2024.
The theme is, “Ten Years Since the Resolution: How are we doing?”
