Who should make end of life care decisions?

Categories: In The Media.

While everyone seem to agree that patients and their families should be involved in any discussions or decisions around care, new proposed legislation aims to give patients more control by:

  • giving families a longer timeframe to challenge a doctor’s decision and find an alternative provider
  • requiring water and nutrition be provided to patients as long as the family wanted
  • preventing doctors from issuing do-not-resuscitate orders.

Personal stories arguing for and against the legislation have been published in the Victoria Advocate.
