World Health Assembly runs this week

Categories: Care.

The draft global action plan for the prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases was included for discussion. A drafting group, co-chaired by Pakistan and the United States of America, will discuss the draft of the action plan, and delegates will reconvene later in the week to review the issue.

The meeting started with the election of Dr Shigeru Omi, Special Assistant for International Affairs, Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan, as the new president of the WHA. Five vice-presidents were appointed from Angola, Haiti, Nepal, Oman, and Ukraine, representing their respective regions.

The WPCA will participate in a side event parallel to the main assembly, ensuring that palliative care has a voice in the proceedings.

African health ministers last night drew up a list of priority measures needed to accelerate the response to tuberculosis (TB) in sub-Saharan Africa.
