Minister launches consultation process for new cancer strategy

The objective of the strategy, the third of it’s kind, is to bring Ireland in to the top tier of countries when it comes to cancer care. 

The Minister has established a Cancer Strategy Steering Group, chaired by Professor John Kennedy, to advise the Department of Health on the development of a Strategy. The consultation process will inform the work of the Steering Group.

The Steering Group is chaired by Professor John Kennedy, Consultant Medical Oncologist, St James’s Hospital and brings together a range of experts in cancer control including Dr Mary Hynes, Deputy Director, National Cancer Control Programme, Mr Donal Buggy, Head of Services, Irish Cancer Society, Dr Liam Grogan, Chair, Irish Society of Medical Oncologists and Ms Sharon Foley, CEO, Irish Hospice Foundation.

The consultation document can be accessed from the Department of Health’s website and members of the public, patients, patient representative groups, carers, voluntary organisations, healthcare providers, healthcare professionals and healthcare professionals’ representative bodies are invited to make submissions.

The closing date for submission of the document is Friday, July 24, 2015.
