Telethon for Ireland’s only children’s hospice.

Categories: In The Media.

All funds raised will provide specialised care and support for children with life-limiting illness and for their families.

The telethon coincides with Children’s Hospice Week which focuses on the heroic efforts of families caring for seriously ill children.

Sharon Morrow, LauraLynn CEO said, “Family time is precious and as the only children’s hospice in the state we provide essential support to families at the toughest of times in our hospice, in the hospital, in the community or in their home, whatever the child and family wish.

We are extremely grateful to TV3 for their continued support of LauraLynn for Children’s Hospice Week.  We depend on fundraising support to keep our doors open and the energy and commitment they bring to the week is fantastic.”

There are over 3,800 children living in Ireland with life limiting conditions and 352 of these children die each year, most within their first year of life. Since opening five years ago, LauraLynn Children’s Hospice has cared for more than 325 children and their families.

Unlike a hospital, a hospice focuses on how a child can live with their condition, and provide support for the wider family who are often under immense physical, emotional and financial pressure. LauraLynn supports the whole family and focuses on the quality of the child’s life and living well. To make the most of these short and precious lives.

It’s the third year TV3 is partnering with LauraLynn to raise awareness and vital funds for Ireland’s only children’s hospice.

Ireland AM producer Sinead Ryan of TV3 said: “It’s a great week for TV3 to be involved with, there is always great fun in LauraLynn and this year we have incorporated a few TV3 programmes into the mix but with a difference. We filmed a celebrity Gogglebox feature, a walk on part in Red Rock, an interview from one of the residents in LauraLynn with Former Celtic footballer Neil Lennon and a Day in the Life feature with families that use the LauraLynn facilities. We are looking forward to our main fundraiser day on the 26th May.

Children’s Hospice Week  takes place from 22nd – 28th May 2017 and focuses on the seriously ill children and their families, cared for by LauraLynn, Ireland’s only Chidren’s Hospice.
