As we approach the festive season, we want the public to be extra vigilant as we have already received a few reports of innocent donors being “defrauded”.
A group, posing as representatives from the “Hospice Foundation” & the “South African Hospice” are currently going door-to-door scamming people out of their money. We want the public to know that Hospice will never collect money from your home and if you do encounter this, please note that the money is not coming to us.
The Hospice Palliative Care Association of South Africa (HPCA) represents over 104 independent hospice members throughout South Africa and instances like this not only gives HPCA a bad reputation but could result in the hospice not getting a donation at all which is really needed.
HPCA has partnered with NEWCO, an official fundraising call centre based in Pretoria who raises money on HPCA’s behalf. The representative will introduce themselves and will state that they are calling you from HPCA’s Tele- Donation centre NEWCO Fundraising. The only 2 options which will be presented to you if you agree to donate will be the following:
Option 1: Debit Order
Option 2 : Once off Donation
NEWCO will never ask to collect donations/money from your home! To find out more about Newco and the work they do, click here
If you felt that you have been a victim of this scam, please contact us: (021) 531 0277 or info@hpca.co.za
