I am married with 3 children and a wonderful son-in law. I love family gatherings with food and talk but also like the ‘ me time’ with a good book or movie. I hate, mieliepap (maize- meal)

How long have you been working for Franscoek Hospice?

Since 2002

How long have you been a nurse?

My whole career, over 30 years

Where have you worked before joining hospice?

Medi Clinic and Stellenbosch Hospital

Why the change to hospice?

I was long for a half day post in order to take care of children

What are the rewards of being a palliative care nurse?

Being able to make a difference in a patient or family’s circumstances, with very little effort, sometimes just a smile or touch.

Can you describe an average day at your job?

An average day depends on the first phone call from a patient/Dr. It could mean that you never look at your diary and any plans that you had for that day.It involves seeing patients, phone calls , meetings, training, stats, people coming to the office for advise or to just talk.Catching up on each others lives over coffee

What do you enjoy doing outside work?

Reading, travelling, movies, admiring other peoples gardens
