Concert to raise awareness for World Hospice and Palliative Care Day

Categories: Community Engagement.

The Voices for Hospice Concert will be held at the United Church Somerset West, on Sunday, 6 October 2019 at 3pm to celebrate this year’s World Hospice and Palliative Care Day.

The theme is: ‘My care, My right’.  This theme speaks to the importance of quality palliative care as a human right.  The theme seeks to engage decision makers to realise that care is a public health priority and should therefore be budgeted accordingly.

Over 60 million people live in pain and suffering without access to cost-effective palliative care each year.  A life limiting illness doesn’t have to limit someone’s ability to live with high function and quality. People should be able to access hospice and palliative care as soon as they are diagnosed with a life-threatening or life-limiting condition, and not just at the end of life.

Helderberg Hospice wants to raise awareness on the importance of mobilising communities, particularly volunteers, to ensure that patient’s rights to care are supported.  We know that for every patient, there is a community of caregivers and volunteers that provide round-the-clock care and support for their loved ones.  We celebrate and acknowledge their role in making such a huge difference in the life of the patients they support.

Support the movement by asking policy makers in government to budget more for palliative care – as the adage goes, we budget for things we care about.  On the 12th of October 2019, make your voice heard by sharing the following on your social media accounts:

“It’s my right to live my life with appropriate relief from the symptoms,

#pain, and stress of a serious illness – whatever my diagnosis.

#mycaremyright #WHPCD2019 #Globalgoals #healthforall #humanrights

A variety of popular and classical music, convened by the talented Anita Glenister – is a celebration of life not to be missed!

A wonderful tea including eats is included in the ticket price of only R95. Tickets are available from Helderberg Hospice (21 Old Stellenbosch Road) or the Helderberg Hospice shops in Somerset West and Strand.
