Khanya Hospice has been bouyed by some much-needed donations.
Shabina Bugwandeen of Bouquets and Beyond in Craigieburn saw the need for masks at Khanya Hospice. Working from home, she called the CEO of Khanya Hospice, Neil McDonald, and donated beautifully made masks to the staff. “Shabina has been a very good Hospice supporter for many years. Thanks to her and Bouquets and Beyond, it is greatly appreciated,” said Neil.
BJ Pretorius, the owner of Umkomaas Spar, then called Neil to make a donation of R2 000. “It could not have come at a better time. We are very grateful for people like BJ who kindly support the free palliative nursing care that our nursing staff offer. We really felt the financial impact of Covid-19, as we had to get extra masks, sanitisers, latex gloves, plastic aprons and we have admitted more patients to our care programme, and none of these expenses were budgeted for.”
Khanya Hospice supporters from Chatsworth then stepped up. Ram Leelawath of Woodhurst asked all her friends and family to help donate adult nappies, clothes and whatever they had to give away, and Neil was called to collect these donations to put up for sale in the three Hospice shops to generate much-needed income.
“It is wonderful to know there are still people who have a caring heart for their fellow man. Ram is such a person.
