Our professional practice is like a muscle – without being used and stretched it won’t develop. Here at Oxford Centre for Education & Research in Palliative Care (OxCERPC) we have been delivering Advanced Communication Skills for several years, making the move from face-to-face learning pre-pandemic to virtual blended learning during- and post-pandemic.
Analysis of feedback demonstrated the there is a desire for refresher courses to keep exercising that muscle! So, in response to feedback, we have developed a new course – Advanced Communication Skills Plus!
We call it ‘Plus!’ because it’s not just your average course – we thought about how to make the learning relevant and reflective. And so, we have developed a course that is delivered in chunks over a 6-week period.
Firstly, we have dedicated facilitators who will deliver an online ‘revision’ session, covering some of the skills and knowledge from the original Advanced Communication Skills Course.
Secondly, over a 6-week period, participants should watch a minimum of two recordings of experts discussing how they use these skills in their particular setting.
We are developing a library of these expert talks, ranging from 30-60 minutes. And finally, we bring the participants back together, online again, for a two-hour reflection on the talks and skills, and establishing how such skills can be better used in their own area of work.
We have two dates for the new course at present, and hope that as the course becomes more widely known we can establish more sessions. And the beauty of delivering the sessions online means that participants can join from anywhere
Dates:
- 24 Feb – 30 March 2023
- 10 March – 21 April 2023
