Book lovers invited to discover a Hidden Gem – and help keep the shelves full

Categories: Fundraising.
Book lovers are being encouraged to visit the much-loved book room at the St Peter’s Hospice shop in Westbury Hill, where hundreds of books line the shelves, offering something for every reader.

Known locally for its impressive collection of books, the dedicated book room has become a destination in its own right. Visitors can browse an extensive range of fiction, non-fiction and children’s books, alongside a carefully curated vintage section that attracts readers, collectors and bargain hunters alike.
To keep the shelves well stocked, the shop is now appealing for donations of good-quality books. Whether it’s bestselling novels, biographies, cookbooks, children’s favourites or vintage editions, every donation helps raise vital funds for Bristol’s only adult Hospice while giving books a new life with another reader.
Emma Darnley, Shop Manager at the Westbury Hill St Peter’s Hospice shop, said: “Our book room has become one of the things we’re best known for. People often tell us they come in just to browse the books and end up staying much longer than they expected. The book room offers a welcoming space where visitors can sit down, relax and take their time exploring the shelves.
“We’re incredibly grateful for the generosity of those who donate books, and we’re always looking for more quality donations to keep our shelves full for the community to enjoy.
“Every donation supports our work in caring for patients and their families in their time of need. It also helps create an affordable, sustainable way for readers of all ages to enjoy great books.”
While the book room is a major attraction, visitors can also browse a wide selection of quality vintage pre-loved clothing, accessories, furniture, homeware and toys, making every visit an opportunity to find something special.
St Peter’s Hospice has over 40 shops across Bristol and with the charity receiving only 20% of its funding from the NHS, it relies heavily on funds generated from its retail operation.
The charity supports people in Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset with life-limiting illnesses both at the Hospice and within their own homes.
