Charity run raises over £100k for hospice

The Beaverbrooks Blackpool 10k Fun Run has raised over £100,000 for Trinity Hospice. The annual run saw more than 2,000 people taking part, running from The Savoy Hotel to Blackpool Pleasure Beach and back along Blackpool’s promenade, which was closed to traffic.

They did it for sponsorship in the hope of raising a combined £60,000 for Trinity, which this year is celebrating its 40th anniversary.

Organisers at the hospice say that with sponsorship money still being paid, the event is on track to raise over £100,800.

Head of Fundraising, Linzi Warburton, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the amount of money that has been raised or donated by people taking part in this event – the most ever raised through this event. And we are so grateful to every one of our runners for making their miles go further as we celebrate four decades of hospice care on the Fylde coast.

“It was a very warm day, and our runners did exceptionally well to complete the run; we know some personal bests were achieved. It’s been wonderful to hear the incredible feedback we’ve had from this much-loved, popular event. What an incredible way to kick off our 2025 events.

“This event wouldn’t be possible without the sponsorship from our friends at Beaverbrooks, as well as the support from our volunteer marshals who help us on the day to manage the road closures, hand out water and medals and provide exceptional cheering for our fantastic runners.”

The money raised through the Beaverbrooks Blackpool 10k Fun Run goes directly to providing hospice care to everyone who needs it in Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre.

People like Beryl Penswick, whose niece Joanne Lindsay took part at the weekend.

Joanne said: “My run was for Beryl; keeping the memory of such a wonderful person alive.

“I feel so blessed that Auntie Beryl was able to pass away there. It was like a home from home and everything they did for her was such a personal service.

“I’ve honestly never felt so loved by people who don’t know me. Coming into Trinity was like being welcomed into a community. They were all just so supportive and Beryl was so beautifully taken care of – it was like they were taking care of their own family member.

“She was in Trinity for four days but for the time we had with her there, it felt like a month. She was so comfortable in this beautiful room looking out into the garden. One of the staff called her Beautiful Beryl and she smiled every time she said it.

“Auntie Beryl is absolutely my inspiration. I feel her by my side every day, and when I’m training along the prom it’s tranquil, quite spiritual, and that’s when is most with me.

I’ll never be able to thank Trinity enough for the care they gave and the difference they made, but I hope the sponsorship I’ve raised through my 10k will help.”
