St Cuthbert’s Hospice opened its doors in September 1988. Situated on the outskirts of Durham in beautiful and peaceful grounds it provides a therapeutic setting for patients and visitors alike. St Cuthbert’s Hospice is a well-established and greatly appreciated part of the community with a workforce comprising on average of 70 staff and over 360 volunteers. We are highly regarded for our quality of service which is reflected in our Quality Account 2013-2014. Our 11 bedded palliative care In Patient Unit provides individualised care planned to support the total well-being of each person, taking into account their physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs and provides holistic care for patients with life limiting illness. Our Day Hospice provides a variety of services including Day Care, Outpatient Appointments, Day Treatments and Lymphoedema clinics, Heart Failure Groups, Respiratory Groups and Welfare Rights clinics for patients and their carer(s). Our Family Support services is available to families who need additional support and help. Following the retirement of the current post holder, the Hospice is seeking an experienced palliative care professional to lead its clinical services on the continuing journey towards excellence, helping to ensure that people in Durham with life-limiting illnesses, and those who care for them, have the best possible outcomes. As a member of the Hospice Senior Management Team, they will have the ability to contribute to the strategic development of the Hospice, as well as provide effective leadership and management to the staff and volunteers who are involved in the delivery of its clinical services. They will also take an active role in promoting and supporting the development of palliative care across the County.
