A group of fundraisers has donated an impressive £31,290 to Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice in Peterborough following a successful ninth annual event.
The event, hosted by the Angel Fair Committee, formed an integral part of the annual Burghley Christmas Fair and featured a one-day lunch and afternoon tea. Guests also enjoyed VIP parking and entry to the Christmas Fair, while taking advantage of the warm haven of the 16th-century Tudor kitchen ‘The Old Kitchen’, on site.
In addition, the committee had its own stand within the fair, selling festive goods including angel baubles kindly donated by Lady Victoria Leatham, the founder of the Angel Fair Committee. They also hosted a raffle.
Abigail Benson, from the Angel Fair Committee, said: “Each member of the committee has a connection to the hospice and a reason, a story, as to why they want to be part of the event – it’s a charity dear to our hearts.”
The money raised from the event will go straight to Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice, the only specialist palliative care inpatient unit in Peterborough. The hospice provides care and support for people who are living with life-limiting conditions, as well as supporting their families.
Abigail continues: “Our fundraising is very much dependent on the generosity of curator Miranda Rock and the Burghley Reservation Trust, for allowing us to be part of their special annual fair and giving us access to the historic Old Kitchen in Burghley House. We are very grateful for their ongoing support.”
“That is true also for the incredible backing of our sponsors. We couldn’t continue without their generosity. We’re delighted that with everyone’s help we have once again been able to raise thousands of pounds to support Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice’s palliative care services,” she adds.
The event’s main sponsors this year were: Whitworths Bros Ltd and Morris Homes, as well as their supporting sponsors: The George Hotel at Stamford, Sloan Plumb Wood, Newlands Developments, Handlesbanken, Hambleton Bakery, Stamford Property Company Ltd, Ceres Group, Adnams, The Rutland Vineyard, Riverside Printers, Dunelm, Peaches Events, and Progression Events.
Leonie Hatcher, Community Fundraising Manager at Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice, said: “Year on year, the Angel Fair Committee goes above and beyond to support our hospice, and we continue to be incredibly grateful for their generosity.
“It’s such a special event, and the fantastic £31,290 raised from this year’s efforts could fund around 1043 hours of expert care, so Sue Ryder doctors and nurses can manage patients’ pain and symptoms and make more space for a family’s final days to be filled with love.”
The group is now gearing up for its 10th anniversary event, which is expected to be bigger than ever, as members aim to push their decade-long fundraising total beyond £200,000.
