Demelza, a children’s charity providing outstanding clinical care and emotional support to children with serious or life-limiting conditions in Kent, East Sussex and South East London, has recently appointed Dave Winch, 46, as Deputy Director of Nursing.
Dave has been nursing for over 20 years and has a particular interest in long term ventilation (LTV), cystic fibrosis, sleep, asthma and tracheostomy care, having worked across community and acute settings, and in leadership roles, supporting multiple teams.
His most recent role was a Senior Lecturer at Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU).
Passionate about teaching, Dave retains the role of Honorary Lecturer at CCCU, is an external examiner at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David and holds a Fellowship of Higher Education Academy.
Having completed his Undergraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (UCAP) and Post Graduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PGCAP), he is currently undertaking an MSc in Healthcare practice. Dave is also a contributing author, having had three articles published on asthma, and has presented his work at various conferences relating to asthma and LTV.
Dave said:
“I first came to Demelza when I was a student nurse and to provide teaching around tracheostomy and ventilation care when I was working at a tertiary centre. The reason I wanted to come back here is the atmosphere. Everyone has been hugely welcoming and it’s been amazing seeing the care that has been delivered and that remains top notch today.”
A keen sportsman, Dave from Rochester, loves running, is 3rd black belt in kickboxing and recently took on the Three Castles Ultra challenge to fundraise for his new employer, taking on a gruelling 50km run and raising over £800 for the charity
Lavinia Jarrett, CEO at Demelza, said:
“I’m delighted we have appointed Dave as our new Deputy Director of Nursing. Dave has a wealth of expertise and experience and will be a huge asset to our clinical services team”.
