Dorothy House needs your story!

In 2026, Dorothy House Hospice Care will be celebrating their 50^th anniversary of serving local communities at the time they need it most. In order to celebrate being a life line for thousands of people over the last half a century, Dorothy House is asking anyone who has come into contact with the Hospice to come forward and tell their story. These stories will help shape the future of hospice care provision in our community.

 “I have worked for Dorothy House for 21 years, having started as a Nurse Specialist in 2004. I have, of course, gathered my own stories from more than two decades in end of life care and know how powerful hearing people experiences in their own words can be. I would love to hear from our communities – patients, family members, volunteers, community partners or previous members of staff – anyone whose life has been touched by Dorothy House over the last half century.” Wayne de Leeuw, CEO of Dorothy House.

Capturing Hospice history

Dorothy House will take these real stories and use a range of them to illustrate and create a compendium that captures the emotion, compassion and care of the past five decades, in the words of people who’ve experienced it first-hand.

These stories will span the history of the Hospice heading into the 50^th anniversary – because Dorothy House is more than just a place, or a collection of services.

Dorothy House Hospice Care provides exceptional free palliative and end of life care to a population of over 593,000 people in Bath & North East Somerset, and parts of Somerset and Wiltshire.

We provide medical services, family support and personalised hospice at home care for around half of the people in our community who are approaching death. We are funded partly by the NHS, but predominantly by donations, our 29 shops, and fundraising efforts.
