EASE Short Film is Launched

Categories: Education.

Scottish Partnership for Palliative Care (SPPC) has made a short film about their End of Life Aid Skills for Everyone (EASE) Course.

EASE is a public education course designed to enable people in Scotland to be more comfortable and confident supporting family and community members with issues they face during dying, death and bereavement. It is delivered free of charge by volunteer EASE Facilitators.

The EASE content includes:

  • different ways we can plan ahead for ill health, dying and death,
  • common symptoms people might experience towards the end of life, exploring treatments and medications that can help,
  • what kind of practical support we can offer to people who are caring, dying or grieving.

The course aims to be accessible and inclusive, with a range of activities including films, case studies, reading and lots of group discussion and reflection.

The launch of the short film marks a year since the EASE Face to Face course was re-piloted. Although the course was due to be rolled out in 2020, it was put on hold due to the pandemic, and EASE Online was developed and rolled out instead.

Caroline Gibb, Community Development Lead at SPPC, says: “It’s been wonderful to get back to delivering EASE Face to Face courses in communities across Scotland. We have a fantastic pool of Volunteer Facilitators who are helping us to get EASE to more and more people. The feedback we get on the courses is overwhelmingly positive, and we know that people come away from it not just more informed, but feeling more confident that they can offer support to others.”

One course participant said: “I will take away a new strength in being able to help, plan and offer support,” while another said: “Very welcoming and knowledgable facilitators…a lovely group of people on the course all with very mixed experience which was interesting. [I] learned a lot.”

Both the EASE Face to Face and EASE Online courses are run regularly with the aim that, in time, anyone who wants to come along to a course will be able to do so.
