Chris and Colin Weir, having won £161 million in the EuroMillions in 2011, have launched the Weir Charitable Trust which has been endowed with £5 million.
The trust is accepting applications from charities and organisations which improve the quality of life for people in Scotland, including the advancement of health, prevention or relief of sickness, disease or human suffering.
The first deadline for applications is 7 March 2013, and awards will be announced in early April. Rolling applications are handled quarterly, and the next deadlines will be 31 May, 30 August and 15 November 2013.
Speaking to Third Force News, Chris and Colin Weir said: “We are delighted that The Weir Charitable Trust is now open for business. Since we won the EuroMillions lottery, it has been a privilege to be in a position to provide support where we could.”
“There is no minimum sum to be applied for – we are more concerned that we reach groups, charities and individuals working hard in their communities, without mainstream support, who want to grow or who need funds to continue with their services. The main restriction is that the Trust will only accept applications from Scottish-based groups or individuals, who will use the money in Scotland.”
More details about the criteria and application process can be found on the Weir Charitable Trust website.
